Anti-Snoring Treatment at Dental Smiles Chelmsford

Snoring and Daytime Sleepiness

Snoring can be constant or intermittent but it can have a big effect on the quality of sleep, relationships and overall health. An Anti-Snoring Treatment could change that.

Your Treatment Journey

1. Consultation

The first step on your treatment journey with Dental Smiles Chelmsford is an in-depth consultation. We offer our treatments in a warm, friendly setting. We can help by providing a non-invasive appliance called a mandibular advancement device (MAD). These devices help position the lower jaw forwards to open up the airway and improve the airflow thus reducing snoring symptoms.

2. Treatment

To get a snore guard made with us, we will first book you in for an Itero scan where the dentist will take a 3D scan of your teeth to send to the lab. Then, few weeks later, you will return and the dentist will fit your bespoke snore guard, checking it’s comfortable. You then wear it every night and both you and your partner can have a great night's sleep.

3. Aftercare

We are committed to excellence – so your care doesn’t end when we put down our tools. We can provide aftercare advice on your Sleepwell snoring guard following your fitting.

What causes snoring?

Snoring can be caused by multiple factors such as your tongue, mouth, throat or airways in your nose vibrating as you breathe. It happens when you sleep as these parts of the body relax.

Why do people snore?

  • Overweight

  • Smoking

  • Being drunk

  • Taking sleeping pills

  • Natural anatomy- soft palate, swollen tonsils or narrow airways

How to prevent snoring?

  • If overweight, try to lose some weight to see if that helps

  • Reduce alcohol/cigarette consumption

  • Sleep on your side. Try putting a pillow behind your back so you don't roll back over when you are asleep

  • Consider a snoring prevention device

Snore guards:

  • A snore guard, also known as mandibular advancement device (MAD), is a device that is worn at night and is designed to push the lower jaw forward which helps keep the airway open.

  • Many users note improvement within the first few nights.

Snore guards at Dental Smiles:

At Dental Smiles, we offer the Sleepwell snoring device for the treatment of snoring and mild to moderate sleep apnoea. The Sleepwell is the most patient-friendly MAD on the market with a success rate of over 80% (in fully apnoeic patients).

It is designed with internal splint fixing, allowing lips to close around the device to prevent dryness and/or excess salivation associated with other splints. High levels of patient comfort meant that during clinical trials over 98% of patients found the device acceptable.

Benefits:

  • Internal fixings result in high patient comfort

  • Full-patient adjustment

  • Soft, slim-lined two-piece device meaning full lateral movement

  • Freedom of movement, reducing likelihood of appliance becoming dislodged

  • Mitigates potential TMJ stress

  • Clinically proven and effective

There are other snoring devices on the market that claim to prevent snoring. As a dental practice, we make a bespoke snore guard that has proven results. Even some of our team members have bought one for their partner!
